During the Mass of the Lord’s Supper last Holy Thursday, the choir sang “This is How” during the Washing of the Feet. Humble service is a poignant theme of this liturgy. We are challenged to live by John 13:35 during this Easter Season:
This is how all will know that you are my disciples: if you have love for one another, if you have love for one another. All will know that you are my disciples.
This is how: In the washing of the feet,
This is how: in the breaking of the bread,
This is how: in the feeding of the hungry,
so all will know what you have done for me.
This is how: In the clothing of the poor,
This is how: in the reaching out to all,
This is how: in the speaking for the voiceless,
so all will know what you have done for me.
This is how: In the sharing of the meal,
This is how: in the caring for the weak,
This is how: in the welcome of the other,
so all will know what you have done for me.
This is how: in the healing of the sick,
This is how: in the loving of our enemy,
This is how: in the giving to the homeless,
so all will know what you have done for me.
