Plan Your Giving - 2024 Deadline Fast Approaching

It’s almost the end of the year, have you made your plans for your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD)? Donating your RMD is a great way to have more control over your taxable income while supporting a qualified charity like your parish, St. Lawrence Martyr.

A Required Minimum Distribution is the minimum amount that must be withdrawn from IRAs and employer-sponsored retirement plans each year once you reach 73. The IRS uses a published Uniform Lifetime Table to determine the amount of your RMD each year.

• Unless funds are donated to a qualified charity, they are added to your other income and the combined amount is taxable which could increase both your Federal and State tax bracket.

• Transferring your RMD by your plan manager or trustee directly to a qualified charity like SLM will avoid taxes on your total contribution.

• In 2024, the maximum amount you can contribute and avoid any taxes is capped at $105,000.

• Transfer must be made by December 31, 2024.
