SLM’s Adult Choir serves at the 9AM Mass every Sunday. Under the direction of Les Rangel-Santos, Director of Worship: Liturgy & Music, the choir practices every Wednesday night from 6:30AM to 8PM. The diversity of members speaks of a kaleidoscope of backgrounds that range from nurses, educators, doctors, engineers, professional musicians, realtors, theater production professionals, computer gurus, among others, who truly love to serve God and His Church, the People of God. The choir sings in English, Latin, Spanish, Tagalog (Filipino), Greek—from traditional, polyphonic, contemporary, to classical, and other genres of music. In addition to Music Ministry, most members are also involved in SLM’s parish life as active members of the Hospitality Committee, Cookie Ministry, Pastoral Council, Michelangelo Ministry, One Heart Ministry, A/V Ministry, etc.
Two weeks ago, some 27 members of the choir attended a day-long retreat at Loyola Marymount University to grow spiritually in their service to the SLM Community. On Wednesday, October 12, liturgical and musical leader John Flaherty will be at the Adult Choir practice to offer an evening retreat (to which parishioners are also invited!).
The Adult Choir is always looking of new members. If you were involved in a high school or college choir or any other choir or if you sing well in the shower, then consider joining the Adult Choir! If you play the flute or oboe, then consider joining the choir! Here’s a typical schedule of a member of the Adult Choir:
Wednesday 6:30PM-8PM: Practice
Sunday, 8:30AM, then Mass at 9AM
