But if we see an altar, we come to church ready to worship, to stand, to sit, to kneel, to pray, to sing, to listen, to respond out loud, to connect with the Body of the Christ; to actively, consciously, and fully participate in the Eucharist, in the thanksgiving of the church. We come ready to financially support a community that feeds us spiritually. We dress up accordingly, realizing that we are not going to the beach or to an outdoor picnic but to a wedding banquet, a heavenly banquet. We acknowledge that “come as you are” is all about our inner self, not about our outer self: we care about modesty and respect ourselves and where we are—even in the summer months, especially in the summer months. “Hmmm, let’s see, I’m going to the banquet of the Lord, not a concert on the beach, what shall I wear?”
